Georgetown University to Welcome HHS Mandate Promoter Kathleen Sebelius

Kathleen Sebelius
Kathleen Sebelius

The oldest Catholic university in America has invited a top pro-abortion politician, Kathleen Sebelius, to speak at its graduation awards ceremony on May 18.  She will be a “great inspiration to our students,” promised Judy Feder, professor at Georgetown’s Public Policy Institute. (see link)

In the wake of the unjust Obama/HHS mandate, however, the scandalous invitation is like a deliberate poke in the eye to Catholics.

After all, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius is responsible for unleashing a fierce persecution against the freedom of the Church – the Obamacare mandate – which forces Catholic individuals and institutions to violate non-negotiable moral principles and pay for contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs.

This unprecedented attack has been strongly denounced by every U. S. Catholic Bishop.  In short, our Catholic shepherds have said:  “We cannot – we will not comply with this unjust law.”

Therefore, TFP Student Action is urging its members to sign a prayerful online message of concern to Archbishop Jean-Louis Bruguès, O.P., Secretary of the Vatican Congregation for Catholic Education, whose Congregation is charged with the oversight of Catholic institutions of higher learning.

Sebelius’ Pro-Abortion Record

Georgetown can hardly pretend to ignore Sebelius’ public and notorious pro-abortion record.  While Governor of Kansas, she repeatedly blocked life-saving legislation aimed to curtail late-term abortions.

When she was appointed to the Cabinet, the abortion industry celebrated. “She is an excellent choice,” declared Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards.

Archbishop Joseph Naumann

Archbishop Naumann
Thankfully, Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann took measures to withhold Holy Communion from Sebelius in the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph.  His 2009 statement explains why:

"... Because of her long history both as a legislator and Governor of consistently supporting legalized abortion and after many months of dialogue, I requested Governor Sebelius not to present herself for communion.

"I did this in the hope that it would motivate Governor Sebelius to reconsider her support for what is an intrinsic evil – the destruction of innocent human life by abortion. I also took this pastoral action to protect others from being misled by the Governor’s public support and advocacy for legalized abortion.”

Cardinal Raymond Burke

Cardinal Burke
Cardinal Raymond L. Burke, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, also expressed concern.

In 2009, the then Archbishop said Sebelius’ appointment was a “source of the greatest embarrassment because she has publicly and repeatedly betrayed her Catholic faith, in the most fundamental tenet of the moral law, that is, the law to safeguard and foster human life from the moment of its inception to the moment of natural death.”

Departing yet further from Catholic moral teaching, more recently, Sebelius joined Dan Savage’s pro-homosexual “It Gets Better Project” and recorded a public video message in support of “LGBT youth.”

A copy of your petition to the Vatican will also be forwarded to Dr. John J. DeGioia, president of Georgetown University.

This controversy is bigger than Georgetown – it’s about the future and freedom of the Catholic Church in America.

Dear Kathy, Please for this Mothers Day, give your children a lesson in loving and being obedient to our Dear Lord Jesus Christ , who was slaughtered on the Cross for not only you, but me and all our families...How can you possibly carry that terrible burden around on your soul? Don't you truly realize what could happen if God calls you in the state that you are in? We'll I can't say any more then that as a Catholic Brother in Christ...Many Blessings and Prayers for a change of Heart,Love in Christ,Bob Amodeo+++

If Catholic Universities start setting people like these as an example, where are we to go for a proper education to multiply the fruits of God?

Here we have the very person who has thrown the Church into a desperate situation in America through her Department's mandate under which every Catholic institution is required to provide health insurance covering abortifacients, sterilization, and contraceptives. Every bishop in the US has signed a protest against what she has done. Yet Georgetown is inviting her to speak at a Catholic university as "a great inspiration to the students." Inspire them to do what? Defy the Church and get all the contraceptives they desire? Or is it perhaps to inspire them to abort their unborn babies?

Just what kind of "Catholic" university Georgetown is has been proven time after time. Please recall when President Obama condescended to speak there as their guest--provided all the Catholic statuary in the background were covered.

Why on God's good earth would a catholic university invite someone who certainly is catholic in name only and openly supports the opposite of Christ's teachings. A mountain of achivements she may have achieved but God will not be moved by any of it, but God will be moved by her lack of His creation.

I pray that this Catholic University will make another PRO-Catholic - Pro-Life choice in a speaker - This is being heard around the world - A Catholic university inviting such a pro-choice individual to address these young graduating minds - Is this a good example for our young Catholics going out into the world?

Here we have someone who is 4 Abortion, Kathleen Sebelius. If she calls herself a "Catholic", I'm sorry but she's NOT a Catholic in the eyes of God. She is a fake Catholic in this "evil world". I am shocked that a Catholic University is allowing this person on sacred ground. We as Catholics should NOT allow this in our schools. It is against our beliefs. What do you "expect" the Holy Father 2 think of this? Is it positive? Is it pleasing 2 God? How's it working 4U? We need 2 stand up 4 what we believe in & NOT be ashamed of it! Think about it this way; If U receive Holy Communion in the state of mortal sin, UR allowing God 2 enter & sit @ the same table w/Satan, which is Mortal Sin! Is Abortion mortal sin? Of course. What does the Commandments say? Thou shalt NOT kill. In the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ I pray against all evil. Kathleen, what kind of example are you trying to make? What RU trying 2 get across to these people? If it's not 4 God, then don't even bother coming.

How can a school pretend to be Catholic when it does NOT teach according to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and His Church?? Is this fair to parents who trust that their children will grow in their Faith (NOT LOSE IT) by sending them
to a "Catholic" College? What an insult to God, and to Catholics?

Under Pope John Paul II's decree
Ex Corde Ecclesiae, all colleges that claimed to be Catholic prior to 1991 are considered Catholic until declared otherwise by a bishop.
I am concerned as to why this university and other Catholic universities like Notre Dame are allowing such speakers on the Catholic campus to speak to Catholic Youth. What on earth do they have in common with Catholic values and morals if these speakers actually use their public positions to promote the culture of death and in it's truest form, sin itself?

I hope and pray that these people promoting actions that are clearly against God's Laws, one which is of criminal nature, will repent, and stop doing so much harm to other souls. No one can fool God, and they will have like everyone else, a private judgement. I pray very often to God to send reformers to the Jesuit Order. They have been for centuries a glory of the Catholic Church. At present they are teaching pure heresies.

I have the feeling that Georgetown university kingmakers are anti-Catholic. To the liberal minds, everything goes. There is no sane Catholic staff of the university who would sign for her coming. To do what? Propagate her obnoxious agenda. Somebody who attacks the faith with impunity and making the church a laughing-stock. If she finds her way in, may be God will intervene before she does more damage. She should bury her face in shame calling herself a catholic while putting her hand in shedding innocent defenseless unborn blood. What a hypocrite! Prayers should be offered for her and group who fight every tooth and nail to promote and enthrone abortion, homosexuality and moral relativism in our contemporary society. Kathleen Sebelius should be disinvited. Awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gays say that Jesus never said anything against them, but...scripture is the divine word of God, and it condemns sodomy, and HE said that one should live by every word that comes out of the mouth of the Lord thy God. In
Mat: 19:3-12, He also says: "Some are born that way, they aren't meant to marry!" I am passionately, and vehemently anti gay.

The Jesuit Society leaders affirm life and state unequivocally; "On this feast of the Annunciation of Our Lord, we, the leadership of the Jesuits in the United States, fervently renew our opposition to abortion and our support for the unborn". She is an affront to our Catholic faith and we are reminded in 1 John 2:4 "He who saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him".

Canon Law 807 states, "The Church has the right to establish and to govern universi-ties(sic), which serve to promote the deeper culture and fuller development of the human person, and to complement the Church's own teaching office." Canon Law. 810 §2 states, "The Episcopal Conference and the diocesan Bishops concerned have the duty and the right of seeing to it that, in these universities, the principles of catholic doctrine are faithfully observed."
Besides the embarrasment to the Church that this invitation creates, there is not a single mention of Catholic doctrine in the GU Mission Statement with the exception of the introduction: "Georgetown is a Catholic and Jesuit, student-centered research university." Why not just call it a "Christian" University or even a "religious" university? GU boasts: "On any given week on our campuses, more than 50 different religious services are taking place..." It's time Church removed the designation of "Catholic" from GU.

It is troubling that the Jesuit leaders at the university feel that it is ok to allow the students to honor Kathleen Sebelius. What are the students learning from this example? In my opinion, this a poke in the eye at the church.

Where in the bible does it say abortion is wrong?

I missed that passage apparently so I'm not sure how this woman is going against god's teachings by being pro-choice?

The Fifth Commandment of God, clearly states, "THOU SHALT NOT KILL."

Abortion is the greatest form of inhumanity. To attack and kill an innocent child is most uncivilized and unjust.

Sadly, Georgetown has lost its Catholic compass. Cardnial Wuerl needs to personally remove the Blessed Sacrament from the university and all Catholic identity and allow it to go on in a private manner.

This university should not be called catholic. Revd. Cardinal Wuerl should do something immediately. To kill is against the Lord's law!!!!!!!!! Abortion is sin because is killing a child.

The invitation to Kathleen Sebelius is a disgrace to Georgetown and it is well past time that the Vatican took a stance on this University masquerading as a Catholic institution. Children attending Georgetown are not getting a Catholic education. They are instead getting an indoctrination into the politically correct mantra espoused by much of today's media as a substitute for the true Catholic faith.
