Hellish Pro-Abortion Attack on Catholic Cathedral

By John Ritchie
October 21, 2012

“The only church that illuminates is the one that burns,” they said.  Five hundred pro-abortion women spray painted the walls of the Cathedral, ridiculed the Catholic Church, and attacked a group of Catholics with paint, spittle, insults and blows.

The incident took place on Sunday night, October 7 during the 27th National Women’s Conference in Posadas, Argentina when a group of about 500 activists from various feminist groups vented their rage against the Church for its position on abortion and same-sex “marriage.”  Although the aggression led to the cancelation of Sunday Masses, hundreds of faithful Catholics, mostly young men, stood at the entrance of the Cathedral, forming a protective prayer chain to prevent its desecration.

“Freedom of speech,” “dialogue” and “tolerance” were entirely absent in the scenes that unfolded in front of the Cathedral.  Far from it, abortion activists, radical feminists and open homosexual – some, completely undressed – united to chant phrases such as “Church – garbage – you're the dictatorship!”  The walls of the Cathedral were vandalized with offensive slurs such as “The only church that illuminates is the one that burns.”

The young faithful who prayed the Hail Mary in front of the Cathedral were spray painted on their clothes and faces.  Pro-abortion women painted Hitler mustaches on the men, spit in their faces, and taunted them with an onslaught obscene insults and immoral gestures.

Young Catholics who defended the Cathedral of Posadas
against a mob of pro-abortion feminists endured persecution.

Police protection was scarce in the area and no barricades were erected to protect the Cathedral or the Catholics from being assaulted by the pro-abortion mob.

At the National Women’s Conference, many attacks were directed against the Bishop of Oberá, the Most Rev. Santiago Bitar, who reportedly qualified pro-abortion supporters as “genocidal.”

Prior to the abortion gathering, members of a pro-family network, Familias de Misiones, distributed a letter warning people about the anti-Catholic attacks perpetrated by pro-abortion activists during other National Women’s Conference events.  The alert was substantiated by a large amount of footage from previous encounters.

However, the pastor of the Cathedral, Fr. Alberto Barros, said in a television interview that the pro-family alert “does not help.” In a telephone interview conducted by TVA, the priest criticized Catholic groups who “live in a fundamentalist and intolerant faith.”

When asked about seeking police protection for the Cathedral, the priest responded: “we don’t want to expose the police to an unpleasant moment.” In fact, law enforcement officials did not restrain the 500 pro-abortion vandals from repeatedly defacing the Cathedral walls or assaulting those defending its entrance.

The Catholic men and women who stood in defense of the Church cannot be labeled as intolerant fundamentalists, as Fr. Alberto Barros did.  What’s so extreme about respecting innocent life from conception to natural death?  What’s so extreme about affirming that marriage is the union between a man and a woman?

Make no mistake, the intolerant ones are those who attack Catholics for peacefully praying the Rosary on the steps of the Church; intolerant are those who promote abortion.

The local Bishop of Posadas, the Most Rev. Juan Martinez, called the pro-abortion feminists “violent and provocative professionals” and demanded that justice be carried out and the assaults not go unpunished.

The bishop also stated that the anti-Catholic graffiti would remain on the Cathedral walls for 48 hours, so that people might reflect on the gravity of the matter.

“The city was put down and violated,” said Bishop Martinez. “If they had done this to a synagogue, it would have been called an anti-Semitic aggression. But since it was committed against Catholics, nothing happens,” he stated.

May God bless the young, pro-life Catholics who had the courage to defend the Cathedral of Posadas – the House of God – and thus prevent greater desecration and shame.  Their holy boldness will be rewarded.

Scandalous. Disgusting. Horrific how people can provoke others by just standing on some steps praying.

Well, we are the intolerant ones. Right? I mean just one look at that video will show you us burning witches, damning homosexuals and....

How can we swing this to show that the tolerant pro-homosexual, abortion, feminists were protecting themselves from an evil oppressive church clearly showing its evil oppressiveness by praying on its own doorstep?

Maybe if we instruct the worlds population to religiously repeat thricely before going to bed that all pro-homosexual, pro-aborts are tolerant, tolerant, tolerant. That should do the trick.

Seriously, how can you be called an extremist for doing what these people did? I hope the priest is being investigated by his bishop as we speak. A forlorn hope, I know, but we are always taught never to abandon hope....

Jim, you should be ashamed of your words! Telling another person - whom GOD HIMSELF deigned to create! - that she does not deserve to exist! Who are you to judge the heart of a person? Yes, we are obligated to judge the ACTIONS of others, but not their souls, nor their worth as creations of the Almighty. I suppose you would have told St. Augustine or St. Mary Magdalene (prior to their respective conversions) that they were unworthy of life - some "pro-life" attitude that is!

Anyway, I feel you are grossly misinterpreting Bernadette's comments anyway, which makes your indictment all the worse. While, truly, her message wasn't the most clearly written, I believe she was asking rhetorical questions in a facetious manner to prove the absurdity of the abortion/homosexual activists' position.

I pray we all can exercise greater compassion and reason when speaking to others: otherwise, we liken ourselves to that which we claim to abhor.

Miss Bernadette,

How can you be so provoked by young people praying peacefully on the Cathedral doorsteps? Do you have difficulty praying? Do you not know that only by prayer we are saved?

If you want to save your soul, Miss Bernadette, please start praying now.

May God have mercy on you!

No, I do not. The comment was meant sarcastically. This is a good example why sarcasm should not be used in the written form. It does not come over well.

But I will take Gods mercy thanks. I'll be needing it.

I'll admit that Bernadette's message was not the most clearly written piece, but, Jonna, in actuality, I believe she was simply asking rhetorical questions in a facetious manner to illustrate the absurdity of the abortion activists. I honestly believe she was criticizing those labeling the peacefully praying Catholics as "extremists," especially when these same critics harbor some of the most radical and extreme views, which they express so hostilely.

I think Bernadette is using irony to get the point across that by standing on their doorstep and praying, they did nothing wrong. I read it as she was showing how rediculously bogus the reaction of the pro-homosexual, pro-aborts really was.

Bernadette, burning witches was done by the protestants, damning homosexuals is God's judgement. We have a duty as Catholics to echo God's warning to sinners that continuing in their sin is spiritual suicide.

The statistics prove you wrong. Homosexuals are much more violent and intolerant even domestically with their own partners.

I'll pray for your conversion.

Do not judge lest you wish to be judge... Bernadette, you better think before you talk. The dogma of the Catholic Church passed down by Jesus Christ is to be followed if we do not want any chastisements to rid our planet of evil, which is what the women were doing and damaging property that is not theirs... What if we did it to their property? Women today are losing it... They think abortion is OK but it is not... Life is not a choice, but a special gift called a child given to you by God! Your parents allowed you to live and the thought of aborting you never entered their mind! You need to count your blessings and thank God for your child.... If you did not want a child, do not have sex!!!! If you are not responsible, do not have sex!!! I will pray for you, Bernadette...

This is shocking and horrific. If only the people of Ireland would be allowed hear about it, there would be no chance that abortion could be legalised. The Irish people are being bullied by pro-abortion fanatics and are being lied to,despite the 'Dublin Declaration.' Very recently an international group of 140 doctors declared that abortion was not necessary to save the life of the pregnant mother.

I am not Catholic and I have never been to this site before, a friend of mine posted this story. I am sure my beliefs are different than some of yours because we are all different people. But what we believe and why isn't really the issue here. The issue is, this is a hate crime. This is absolutely disgraceful. I may be pro-choice and in favor of gay marriage, things I will not apologize for, but I will say I am sorry that people behaved this way. Most of all, I am for peaceful existence. The members of this church were doing nothing to these people and while I don't agree that people who are pro-choice are genocidal, I believe that these particular people must be to scream at and spit at and paint people they have never met, and don't know anything about. I am so sorry that people did this to your, or any other, church or place of worship. Peace be with you.

How can you say pro-choice people are not genocidal? Don't you know that abortion is MURDER!!! Do you know that the killing of unborn babies from 1973 to 2010 totalled 52,343,392?
If Sodomy is a crime, why are we allowing or accepting gay marriages? Should they not be prosecuted for their criminal offense?

Let us all bring morality back into our lives/Nation. Regardless of religious beliefs, we should all pray that the Lord listens to our prayers and has pity on us. GOD BLESS US ALL.

What are they going to do to make amends for this outrage? As for the priest, Fr. "The only Church that illuminates is the Church that burns"? Well, I think we Catholics have to realize the deep, oddly comforting truth in these words. There is only one Church that illuminates -- ours. It does that by being persecuted. One, holy, Catholic, Apostolic, and Persecuted Church, as I believe Bp. Sheen said. It is only when we burn -- metaphorically speaking -- that we show the true light of Christ to the world. That is how the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church -- because people are attracted to the light of that heroism. We all have to be on fire with the zeal of the martyrs, even if it is not given to us to suffer to the extent that they did, and do.

I am sorry that I am not as charitable as most of you posting here. I am angry when I see this, and most of all with the priest of the parish, who can only be called a traitor to Christ and no Christian at all. How can the bishops continue to tolerate such flagrant apostasy from the clergy? It seems to me that these attacks are encouraged by a weak and tepid faith shown by the Church hierarchy, whose indifference to the faithful allows them to stand by while they are attacked and while the church is being vandalized. And the response to this outrage is a verbal assault by the priest against the Catholic victims!?! I fear that unless we demand some standard of morality, courage, and decency from our priests and bishops, the Church cannot survive. God will surely not suffer these evil ones to continue acting in His name.

Those doing the atacking and the spitting are the intolerant ones! The pastor who is attempting to muzzle the group supporting good family practices, is the intolerant one, not to mention the fact that he is a traitor to his vocation. May God Bless This World. Pro-Life men and woman do not act this way. Why is it that the Devil is always a major player in the ways Pro-Choice aka. Baby killers act like animals let loose in the wilderness. This was an utter disgrace to mankind to watch such a display againt the innocent children that God himself has a hand in. God was and still is crying over such actions taken by the people who act in such a disgraceful way. May God Have Mercy on Their Souls. They Know What They Are Doing You Can't Tell Me Otherwise. Sad
With Respect,
Mrs. Julie Langelier

@Bernadette-

If these pro-abortionist etc. trully believe in what they claim then there is no need to make such actions. Their consciences should be clear. The truth needs no support because it is just that: the truth. However it appears that these people 'attacking' the cathedral have issues with their beleifs and they are trying toconvince themselves that what they believe is true by publically shouting it. Be silent and content that you have the truth...or if you don't have the truth, HONESTLY search for it.

I commend the brave individuals who attempted to protect the cathedral at great personal risk. This Pastor really needs to do some soul searching as to how and why he serves God and the church. As usual with liberals, "tolerance" is practiced only with like-minded individuals.

Please pray for these beautiful young men who stand up for life and the Church. Please pray for Fr. Alberto Barros for a renewed faith that he is losing. Please pray for these radically misguided women, that Jesus will fill their hearts with love and compassion instead of hate for what is right and good. It's spiritual warfare whether we believe it or not. We know how the bible ends but we want to take as many people with us as possible. Jesus died for ALL of us. We don't want Satan to win ONE single soul. "who wills everyone to be saved to come to knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:1-8) That is why we have to do the hard thing and pray for the people who we view as evil. They are people who do evil things.

I'm confused as to why some people are saying the priest should be excommunicated. Because he said the pro-life advertisements aren't helping? clearly, in his area, those ads are just provoking violence. Don't get me wrong, I'll preach anti-abortion all day long, but sometimes, the kinder thing to do is to lend your support to someone who may have gone through something like that, not criticize them. or is it because he didn't want to respond to the violence that occurred at his church? We're supposed to turn the other cheek, not get out our brass knuckles. Or was it that he wanted Catholics to be more tolerant? Isn't the WHOLE BASIS of Christianity to love your neighbor? Love the person, hate the sin? If any of you are parents out there, you know how you would feel if your child's life's end was your doing. If these women can deal with that, in any way, they need love and kindness, not more violence. Yelling at a child does nothing but make them more upset. Pray for them, perhaps.

BobbiJean,
"However, the pastor of the Cathedral, Fr. Alberto Barros, said in a television interview that the pro-family alert “does not help.” In a telephone interview conducted by TVA, the priest criticized Catholic groups who “live in a fundamentalist and intolerant faith.”

the priest when he became one, was vowed into the Catholic Church in that he has committed to upholding the faith according to the Bible. his comment indicates that his vows mean nothing to him as he criticizes Catholics for believing what he vowed to do.
the way he used the word intolerance was in the worldly form. the ones he criticised for being intolerant - stood there being spat on, assaulted and verbally abused. they did show love and tolerance to those who feel "intolerated".

i am a parent, my daughter kicks and screams when i dont give her chocolate everytime she wants it. i am loving her and tolerating her behaviour but i will not give her everything she desires as that would be unloving.

Also, the WHOLE BASIS of Christianity is that Christ died and rose again so we could live - he showed us true love and tolerance in that he died a painful death while we denied him and abused him. but a good and loving parent will follow his lead in disciplining their child so they live safe and healthy lives.

About the violence, so Jesus should probably have stayed away and not preached the Gospel because it was too dangerous, right? A Catholic is NO powder-puff Christian. We are soldiers for Christ. We must storm the gates of hell! The pro-abort agenda uses semantics to insidiously promote and kill unborn human beings. So we must be careful in choosing our words carefully. That being said, we are Pro-Life, NEVER "anti-" ANYTHING. We are for life, never against it. You are absolutely right to say that we must love and be sympathetic, compassionate and consoling to those poor souls that have been lied to, cheated, and stripped of their right to know the truth that they are killing their unborn children. WOMEN DESERVE BETTER than abortion! We must be firm, but kind. ABOLISH ABORTION---NOW!!! GOD BLESS TFP!

Thank God for the strong faith of the young men and let us pray harder for the activist that they don't know what they are doing.

Other Christians may give their opinion but a knowledgeable Catholic Christian does not have an opinion on Faith and Morals. He/she is a disciple of Jesus Christ, a student of the Church. All that God revealed is in the Church, and we have promised to accept all that God revealed, otherwise it would be blasphemy, the Unpardonable Sin, attributing to Satan what is the work of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31+footnote - NAB). The Church has all the Truth (1 Timothy 3:15). In 2000 years, the Church has never been wrong on any Faith and Morals matter. Therefore, trust in God, just as Jesus directed: Become like little children who are completely dependent on their parents. This is how a disciple is to be with respect to God (Matthew 18:2-3+footnote in the NAB). We are not politicians. As citizens, our involvement in society is limited to working, loving God and neighbor, voting for God and defending our country. Trust in God and watch God ruling through His Pro-Life people. God bless.

I highly disagree that as citizens, our involvement in society is "limited" to what you listed. It is not. We must be a POWERFUL WITNESS to our Faith and Our Saviour. Imagine if Rev. Martin L. King, Jr. did not march at the US capital? Exactly.

I love that the prolifers who came out to defend our Church...

I did notice the angry women did not look like nor sound like Argentina's. Was this mess started some another country?

May God in His infinite mercy and grace grant us all the strength and courage to be strong in our defense of His Word as was given us all by His only begotten Son our Lord Jesus. This is the beginning , it will get worse , have courage young ones for us all , for you are the ones to carry on the fight. Teach your children well so they too will carry on the truth and be defenders of the faith... do not let false priests confuse you they are doing the devil's work against you ... be strong, be clear and stand up to evil. Love you all and hearing your words gives me hope that once i am gone you carry on ...

AS Catholics, as Christians, should we just lay down our lives and let evil prosper in our lifetime...? i don't think this is what Christ said when He said we should be like children in order to enter Paradise, we have a right to defend ourselves without falling in their dirty mire or sin. These men and women that surrounded the church and protected the Cathedral from being desecrated did God's work and they, like the early martyrs, withstood the persecution and did not allow evil to come in and destroy. God bless them and God bless all who stand for righteousness and stand up to evil...

I cry to see the way people have turned to evil instead of God's goodness; to darkness instead of God's holy light. Yet- I was greatly impressed with the young men who stood their ground in defense of Christ and our Church. They reminded me of Jesus facing his mockers and executioners. May we all be as courageous and bold in the defense of our One, True, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic faith.
