Good News: Madonna University Cancels Planned Parenthood Speaker

By John Ritchie
February 07, 2011
Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood
speaker was nixed
at Madonna.
Why would any Catholic university bring a Planned Parenthood speaker to campus?

Well, that's what students at Catholic Madonna University were wondering when the sign-language studies department at Madonna University, a Catholic institution, invited pro-abortion speaker Christine Gannon to teach a workshop on sexual issues.

Thank God, however, the event was canceled after good pro-life students on campus and TFP Student Action spoke up.  The online brochure announcing the February 26 event was also removed.

Madonna University president, Sister Rose Marie Kujawa, confirmed the good news to students in an email:

"I wanted to inform you as soon as possible that there will be no speaker from Planned Parenthood at Madonna University (including the Orchard Lake or any other MU extension)," the email stated .  "You can share this with our Campus Ministry students.  I am sure this will bring relief to their parents as well.  Thank you for your prayers."

Those who are inclined to thank Madonna University for canceling the pro-abortion speaker may contact:

Many thanks for this effort!

Why is it such a struggle to get Catholic institutions to follow Catholic teaching?

A major house cleaning is needed, especially considering the recent news from Front Royal, Va. Again, Magisterium involvement and guidance, please!

Thank you, Sister Rosemarie for being a true beacon of light to the many young students on campus and to the rest of the Catholic world trying to keep the faith of our young people strong. Keep up the good work. As a parent, it saddens me so to even think about the morality of the current world reaching into the depths of Catholic Universities and filling the youth with false doctrine and chipping away at their faith foundation.

Relieved to hear of the proper response by MU but more importantly where was the corrective action as to how this was approved by the ADMIN OR even allowed to be brought to consideration? I think this represents the Catholic leadership of MU - be careful of who you choose to follow!

I want to commend you for your unwavering stand for Catholic traditions, and, more importantly, unquestionable Biblical teachings. I am not Catholic, being raised a Southern Baptist, however as I have grown in faith, I have discovered it is not our denomination that saves us but our belief, trust and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I worked for several years in a Catholic hospital, and gained understanding of our differences in beliefs, and great respect and devotion for our similarities. I sincerely appreciate the strong stand that the Church takes on non debatable issues such as life and marriage. I will continue to pray for your voice and your influence.

Blessings

Dear Sister,

Thank you for the decision made regarding the speaker from Planned Parenthood. An anti-life/anti-family organization that runs the largest chain of abortion clinics in America has no business speaking to students at a Catholic University.
God be with you.

Sister-thank you for canceling Planned Parenthood. I truly pray you are canceling not because Madonna got "caught" but because you realize what evil this organization promotes and that PP has NO place ever on a Catholic campus. I pray you will keep watch so nothing like this ever is allowed to be promoted again by Catholic Madonna College. Remember our beautiful Madonna herself as you guide the college. You are in my prayers as are the students who raised the concern. Bless you-

Good day: I'm pleased to hear that the University has canceled the speaker from Planned Parenthood. It is never appropriate to have this institution honored at a Catholic institute, but now dealing with its alleged support of sex trafficking it is even more imperative that we shun P.P. and indeed all those who do not support the dignity of all.
Sincerely, Suzanne Formanek

Dear Sr. Rose Marie Kujawa,

Thank you so much for canceling this Planned Parenthood speaker at Madonna University. My heart rejoices with this choice.

Being pro-life is such a huge part of being Catholic, and I am very glad that a Catholic University will continue to uphold this vital virtue.

God Bless,

Wonderful news. Negative forces push hard and only advance when they meet no resistance; therefore, the only thing that stops them is strong opposition. The forces for good and morality must be at least as militant, and even more militant than any other.

Human nature being what it is, this is one victory but the war will always be on. Congratulations and keep up the good fight.

Sr. Rose Marie:

I just heard that you have canceled a Planned Parenthood speaker on Madonna University. I am so pleased that you have prevented this. Planned Parenthood is the largest promoter and provider of abortion in the United States. Their work is in total opposition to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Dear Sister Rose Marie,I would like to say it is a wonderful thing that the Planned Parenthood speaker event was canceled. Planned Parenthood presents their ideology as a place where choices are presented. Their stance is in direct opposition to the Catholic Church. They actually do not offer choices, but it is God, who established His Church on Earth to be the mouth piece for God's word, who offers choices. It has been said, who can outdo God in His supreme goodness? Nobody can offer more choices than our loving Father. The choices that Planned Parenthood are limited and not only lead to death to the spirit, but also to the soul. Planned Parenthood is the wrong speaker to invite. Our youth are hungry for the Truth.

Dear Sister Rose Marie Kujawa:
Thank you for cancelling the Planned Parenthood speaker who was scheduled to speak at Madonna University. Catholic Universities need to teach Catholic teaching, not promoting anti-Catholic teaching.

I would also suggest that all of the employees that were involved in this invitation, be disaplined, which could include termination of their position at the university, if you find they intentionally were promoting an anti-Catholic viewpoint.

Sincerely,
John Gannon

Dear Sister Rosemarie, Thank you for publically upholding the dignity and value if all life. No practicing Catholic can support planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortion in the USA. They are a multi-million dollar organization and receive funding from our tax dollars through the US government. I and many others abhor this and actively work to de-fund public funding for planned Parenthood. This instrument of the devil certainly does not need any support from a catholic college such as Madona. May the Virgin Mary and her don our Lord Jesus bless you for your courageous actions. Sincerely yours, Christopher Linstrom MD

Thanks for the update on Madonna Univ. The critical question is why was Ms. Gannon invited in the first place to a Catholic institution. That people had to protest and prevail only covers half the story. How and more importantly why did they have to protest in the first place is more important and revealing.

Thank you for having the courage to support Catholic beliefs and practices. Thank you for not going along with the culture of death. Mother, God bless you for your attention to this situation.

I do not understand how this situation could even come up in a Catholic Unversity.

I praise you for your diligence and wish that diligence would wear off on many of the other Catholic Institutions. I pray they open their hearts to the true Catholic teaching

Thank You, Sister Rose Marie for standing for what is good and Holy. Having a pro abortion person teach on sexuality doesn't make any sense. Pro aborts obviously do not understand the beautiful gift of human sexuality. Human sexuality is all about the dignity of life. Many understand this now, thanks to the late Pope John Paul II.
You are doing a good job standing up for our faith.

Dear Sister, Thank you very much for not allowing Planned Parenthood to spread their gospel of ungodliness.I hope that your action will convince the sign-language dept. head to conform to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Thanks to Sr. Rose the invitation was cancelled. However, my question is, as President of the school, how in the world was the invitation ever made without Sr. Rose's knowledge. It would seem that there is some other responsible person on campus who should be challenged on this one, and perhaps disciplined or fired. Our Catholic schools need to be kept totally Catholic.

Becoming catholic again!!!!! I'm proud of our catholic institutions who stand for the faith. There is no place for the evil of the abortion industry. They are not trying to help women, only make money on the lives of the innocent.

Dear Sr. Rose Marie, President MU,
Let's praise the Lord for the guidance to our Catholics always to have a wakening conscience and attentiveness Pro-Vita.
If failing to defend human life and human dignity, that is, the very foundation of the meaning of our human lives, what can make sense in our lives.
Pro-Life formation is so critically important in today's secularized world.
MU has set up a good example for our catholic high educational institutions.
We appreciate your action very much.
May God bless you and Falician Sisters abundantly in journey 2011!
Love and prayers,
Joseph Law, MD

Dear Sister Rose Marie,

I am very glad and thankful to God for the cancellation of the talk that a representative from Planned Parenthood was scheduled to give in your Campus.

People that are IN FAVOR of things that are in nature "intrinsically evil" and therefore, offensive to God, should not be guests at any Catholic University, for these people create confusion to the students by their lies.
They are in NO WAY role models for our children.

God bless you for your courageous stand and keep us the good work!

Sincerely,
Ralph and Cristina Hughes

May God Bless you Sister ! PP is funded illegally with our tax dollars through the Dept. of Health & Human Services. A supposed Catholic woman heads HHS, K. Sebelius, the ex-Gov. of Kansas. She needs to be put in her place & be publicly denounced by her Bishop on a regular basis.

Thank you TFP and faithful students for bringing this to attention. Thank you Sr. Rose Marie for taking Catholic action. We still all wonder how this plan to have a Planned Parenthood speaker could have slipped under the radar. Was it switched off? The person who deliberately booked that speaker to spread her anti-God doctrine should indeed be dealt with. What other deviations does she allow in her capacity on staff at Madonna University?

Thank you for supporting our Catholic values and supporting our Pro-Life stance.
Please encourage others to read unPlanned, a book by Amy Johnson who left Planned Parenthood after being Director of their Bryan Texas facility. She reveals the real goals of Planned Parenthood and how seeing an ultrasound-guided abortion changed her life forever. For those "on the fence" about Pro-Life, this is a must read book

Oh, Sister, I was so pleased by your action in teaching and defending the faith! What a treat! Pro lifers have been so beaten down by so called "Catholic" leaders in the Senate, Congress, clergy, etc. over the last several decades, your traditional pre-Vatican II response was a rare pleasure. If a job vacancy in, say, Notre Dame University should suddenly open up, would you please give it some serious thought? Our Lady must be very pleased by this college that shares her name. I am.

We are very, very proud of those students who stood up against Planned Parenthood...
It can be very hard even in a Catholic College or high school to stand for the teachings of the Church.

Thank God and the Blessed Mother. We Catholics have been Confirmed with the Holy Spirit as Catholic Soldiers of Jesus Christ and our Faith. We must put on our Shield of Faith to fight the war against immorality, secularism, abortion, homosexuality, and any other evil action that is against us. That's what Confirmation is all about. Catholics have been silent much too long; and not to act to protect our Catholic Faith is a grievous offense.
Thank you all that have fought this fight to let the truth be known that abortion is evil.

Dear Sister, I am thankful that the PP representative was canceled. As the fight between good and evil intensifies in the world every thing we do to thwart evil is a step in the right direction. The researchers (all volunteers) at the Isaac Newton Bible Code Research Society have uncovered in the Hebrew Old Testament (using the Bible Code software) that we are living in the beginning of what have been called "the end times". Whether they last a generation as many believe or a thousand years I do not know but the fight between good and evil seems eternal here in the physical world. We all have a part to play in God's Kingdom and protecting young minds from the corrupting influence of what Jesus called "the world" is certainly a vital part for a teacher. May God continue to bless you in all you do.

We are so thankful that this pro-abortion speaker has been canceled. There are far too many young men and women suffering after the full impact of what an abortion actually is, is recognized by their souls, in this sea of mud we swim in out here. Wake up people! SAVE the HUMAN BABIES! Assist women to care for their babies and become self sufficient. Teach the happiness of a committed marriage.

This is wonderful news. We have to start standing up and voicing our objection with what the world takes for granted. I am happy to hear this was done at Madonna. If the Catholic Church doesn't raise the loudest objection, who will? Thank you Sister for making a powerful statement.

Thank Sister and thank you to the young people on campus who are fighting the good fight. Our voices are now being heard it seems and Planned Parenthood is being exposed for what it is on national TV. We must keep working for the cause of life and I think this generation of young people will expose this evil for what it is.

God bless all of you.

Good for you Sister, for doing the right thing. I'm from MI and am familiar with Madonna University and I would have been very, very disappointed if that speaker went on. God will bring good things your way for standing up for Catholic values, which is what we expect from a Catholic institution.

How on earth did Ms. Gannon ever receive an invitation from Madonna University in the first place, Sister Rose Marie?

Why did the sign-language studies department feel comfortable in extending this invitation?

Why would a Catholic university need to offer a "workshop on sexual issues" unless it was presented by someone from the clergy, religious life, NFP or a faith-based pro-chastity organization?

I suspect some house-cleaning is in order at this academic institution, and "ex corde ecclesiae" be strongly exercised campus-wide.

Thank you for your consideration.

Denise

Thank you for standing up for the Truth
by cancelling the speaker from Planned Parenthood. This organization that supports abortions fools the public by their campaigns. I thank God that you did not accept this deception.
The Catholic Church has been deceived on many occations.
I want to thank you again for your courage in making the decision to cancel the speaker. God Bless You Abundantly,
