Pro-Abortion Speaker CANCELED at Siena College

TFP Student Action is glad to announce that Siena College – a Catholic Franciscan institution – has canceled a scheduled presentation by pro-abortion, anti-Catholic speaker Widney Brown.

Siena College Adjunct Professor, Ken Jubie, sent out an email on Friday afternoon, stating:  “The Globalization Program has cancelled the lecture scheduled for Monday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. Some previous statements made by the planned speaker were contrary to the spirit and mission of Siena College.”

The talk was nixed less than 12-hours after TFP Student Action launched its online protest.  In a few hours, over 3,000 emails and personal phone calls were logged, respectfully urging the president of Siena College, Fr. Kevin Mullen, O.F.M., to reconsider the event.

The title of Widney Brown’s talk would have been, “The Prognosis for Human Rights in a Politically Changed World.”

“It’s hard to imagine how a vocal pro-abortion speaker was invited to speak about human rights on a Catholic campus,” said TFP Student Action Director John Ritchie.  “Abortion has got to be the single, most egregious and widespread denial of human rights in history – the right to life.  So, I’m glad and thankful that Siena College pulled the plug on this speaker who denies children their right to life.  I’m also grateful to everyone who took the time to contact the college and voice their concern.”

One of our readers from Cohoes, New York, just reported:

“This one hit near to home.  We're within five miles of the Siena campus.  One of my daughters is a graduate of Siena, as well as my son-in-law, a sister, and two brothers-in-law.  I notified everyone, including one of our priest/friar friends who teaches there.  We registered complaints through email and phone calls, and a short time ago, we received confirmation that Siena cancelled the event.  We would not have been aware of this had it not been for you.  Keep up the fight.  You're a great group, and we're praying for you!”

I can't conceive of this speaker ever being considered to speak at a Catholic College. I think the Globalization Studies Program needs to be seriously looked into and abandoned. Have mercy on our youth today.

Thanks be to God!!! We must continue to pray fast and sacrifice for an end to abortion.
re: Mother(saint) Theresa of Calcutta, A country who condones abortion is the poorest of the poor. This is not exact but is what I am able to remember, May God bless our country and our world.

Thank God the speaker was cancelled. Let us hope Siena College will look into the founders of Planned Parenthood (in the earliest years of the last century) and discover the founders questionable outlook on life and ethnic cleansing. It is a pro-abortion organization as well as the base for many of Hitler's WWII ethnic cleansing policies and actions.

My niece was considering applying to this school. I contacted them and let them know that she would not be applying and that I would discourage every Catholic person I know from having anything to do with Siena. The fact that we had to protest to get them to do the right thing speaks volumes. Siena has lost its way. What on earth is Fr. Kevin Mullen thinking? Thanks John. Keep up the good work.

Please promote who these colleges should have as speakers. Room at the Inn of Greensboro, NC recently hosted Ms. Abby Johnson, the former Director of Planned Parenthood who left to speak out for life. She is quite powerful and would get every college student's attention in a positive way. She also found her way home to the Catholic Church. Please read her book, "unPlanned" and decide for yourself. Just read the first 28 pages...

I've mentioned this before (possibly even at tfp's site) that I have no problem with a debate between people of differing views.

After all we're commanded by our Lord to make disciples (which better involve a series of debates otherwise there's no true learning).

But it is entirely inappropriate to invite someone to lecture you in a view that opposes yours. And that is why I protested. If this colleges would invite the speaker to participate in a debate with the chief Christian debater, then I'd buy the CD afterwards.

This is a good result. It certainly can be effective when Catholics make known what they consider sacred to God. Respect for Life is one of those issues.

How wonderful to hear that all the work that you do in notifying the public has again saved many young impressionable students from being duped by the engaging erroneous Widney Brown. A significant number of Catholic colleges/ universities are receiving federal funds in any number of ways. Thus they may be held to some of the requlations that are contrary to Catholic morals. It is someone like you who will keep the public informed so that the federal government will not destroy our Catholic educational system --- nor try to destroy membership in the Roman Catholic Church. Thank you and to all who work with you.

'Fr.' Kevin Mullen should be made to explain himself. Maybe he needs a sabbatical or does his 'supporting' staff require leave of absence?!!

Abortion is a simple thing according to the Ten Commandants. IT IS A SIN AGAINST THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT. Also it is a sin against the Seventh Commandment. It steals the dignity and the self worth of women. They a maimed for life in their hearts, their minds, and their souls. This is one step for life. Let the public know what happens during and after abortions. THEY ARE BOTH NO GOOD.

Educators should preserve that Catholic faith even in difficult times. We cannot allow our youth to be misinformed by wayward people. We have to keep the faith whole and entire. I pray for Fr. Kevin Mullen so that he will make some reflection on this.

Thanks be to God for the cancellation. Let us be RELENTLESS in praying for the shutting down and extinction of all abortion clinics, the conversion and repentance of all abortionists and those who work in abortion clinics, and the election of pro-life members of Congress and President in 2012

Praise God for those of us that still try to practice our TRUE CATHOLIC FAITH to the nth degree. EVERYTHING we do and say is important and does fall/connect to ears who then NEED the FULL TRUTH TOO.

Fr. Kevin should be commended for ultimately following church teaching by refusing to allow sinful instruction on a Catholic campus. There should be no next time, since our shepherd, Fr. Kevin, has learned an important lesson from his flocks.
