Tyler is a small town in Texas and about one of the best places to gauge the reaction of the American public to our message. Though the vehicle traffic in the town center was slow and the foot traffic almost non existent, it was truly a good campaign.
Today we campaigned in downtown Albany, near the capitol building. It was excellent. However, we saw billboards around Albany that promote homosexuality. One reads: “I am gay and I am here to stay.”
We also noticed rainbow flags hanging from a Lutheran church and various shops.
The campaigns today in Saratoga Springs, Halfmoon and Troy were excellent. It’s been very sunny and we are all pretty well sun-burned by now. The level of support for traditional marriage continues strong.
UPDATE: The man who ripped up our banner in Fairport, New York, was arrested today.
As young TFP volunteers stood at the corner of Main Street and Church Street with signs, a pro-homosexualist hurled himself against the group’s thirteen foot long banner inscribed with “God’s Marriage = 1 Man & 1 Woman.” The banner, held by three volunteers, was knocked down and violently torn to pieces.
After Mass we met a gentleman who kindly offered to lead us to one of the busiest intersections in Utica, near Sangertown Square, for our next campaign. He was glad to meet our team of young volunteers and said: “I’m so impressed. Where have you been all my life?”
The campaign in Binghampton, New York, yesterday had an interesting twist.
As we raised the American flag to begin our efforts in favor of traditional marriage, a group of people standing on the opposite side of the street – in front of City Hall – were about to hoist the very symbol of the opposition: a rainbow flag, with the approval of city mayor Matthew Ryan.
