TFP leads protest as pro-abortion Kathleen Sebelius goes to Georgetown

By William Stover
May 22, 2012

Introducing pro-abortion HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to Georgetown’s graduating class of 2012, the Dean of the Georgetown Public Policy Institute (GPPI) said: “She works every day to improve access to health care for our nation’s children...”

However, the dean ignored the truth:  Sebelius promotes pro-abortion policies that turn the womb into the most dangerous place for unborn children to live in America.

On May 18, as Georgetown University prepared to honor the chief architect of the Obamacare contraception mandate, TFP Student Action volunteers were kicking into gear for a prayerful protest at America’s oldest Catholic university.

Shortly before 10:00 AM, we set up our campaign on the public sidewalk outside the Healy Gates, where we were joined by several other pro-life leaders and activists.

Hoisting aloft the American flag, the TFP standard, and a banner reading: “Sebelius persecutes the Church, yet Georgetown welcomes her. Faithful Catholics protest,” we braced for the expectedly polarized response of passers-by. We were not disappointed.

“Thank you for your respectful approach,” said a graduation goer.  “You make the Catholic Church look good.”

One man, entering the gate to attend his daughter’s graduation, commented: “I am with you guys on this; I just cannot understand why a Catholic school would invite someone like this.” Others were less positive:  “You’re ruining this graduation. Why did you choose to come today?” to which we responded: “We didn’t choose the day; Georgetown did when it invited Sebelius.”

Georgetown University protest
As Kathleen Sebelius went to Georgetown,
TFP Student Action members piped in protest.
In response to our sign reading, “Georgetown: You can’t be Catholic and pro-abortion,” one man proclaimed: “Why are you guys even here? Catholic is just a name!” Sadly, it seems that Georgetown would agree.  In contrast with this attitude, the assembled pro-life supporters joined together in the recitation of the rosary in reparation for the grave scandal underway at Georgetown.

Between rosaries, we also chanted slogans. “Catholic Fidelity: YES! -- Pro-abortion Sebelius: NO!” and “Keep America strong, defend innocent life!”

The TFP protest was covered by several news outlets including CNN, Fox News and The Washington Post.

After a campaign of several hours, complete with debates, interviews, and more importantly, the recitation of the rosary, we departed, ready to continue defending Catholic moral teaching in the ongoing battle for the soul of America.

It is indeed a HUGE scandal to invite Ms. Sebelius to a Catholic institution to speak! It's a disgrace! Where were the local bishop and Church leaders when this was going on? It's like having a representative of the Pork Producers of America speak at a Synagogue or Mosque. Where is the Catholic outrage? Why are the Georgetown officials allowed to feed their own egos and vanity by hosting such a 'prestigious' guest speaker instead of putting the Mother Church first?

Abortion (Murder) signs need to move from infront of abortion clinics to in front of court houses, and other populated areas of towns and cities. Signs bringing to light Homosexual life style must also move into busy areas (Gods marriage = one man one woman type also in downtown and busy business areas or weekend play spaces. Time to get those that are too busy working and playing to start recognizing what is happening around them.

Young ones are the future of our country. Let's teach them moral values, They don't deserve to get confused and think that if they are future parents they have the right of continue with that unborn baby or kill them.

I can only ask for forgiveness, because they do not know what is right or wrong.
Inviting this person, who is in favor of abortion, which is killing an innocent human being, in order to be able to live an earthly happy life is wrong. Apparently they do not know that they have a soul which is immortal.

Thank you for your work in Christ's name. The Gospel this previous Sunday was a call from Christ to do what you are doing. Preach the Gospel to all nations. Unfortunately Georgetown has lost its way and is allowing a broken foundation destroy the integrity which once was held as one to be followed. You are in the prayers of many.
God Bless.

You guys are awesome! What fun!

Kind of sad if that was really a black clergyman walking past you (at 32 secnds)!with his eyes on the ground...especially since, abortion has caused more genocide of his own race than any other.

Would be interesting to interview him.

God bless each of you for standing up for the unborn.
It is disgusting that these 'Catholic' universities allow
pro-abortion speakers on their grounds.
What horrific damage they are doing.
A very sad statement by the man who said "Catholic is only a name". However, when I see and read of all the good that you TFP Student Action volunteers are doing - I know there is definitely hope for the future and that abortion will once again become illegal - giving every child a chance to be born as God intended. I know Our Lady and Her Divine Son are pleased with your actions and courage and I pray they will bless each of you abundantly.

I have a difficult time understanding why Catholic institutions continue to invite people whose opinions are in complete contrast with Church Teachings, and in the case of Ms. Sebelius, it is absolutely unbelievable that a person who calls herself a "Catholic" would actually appear and hold the positions she holds. In my opinion she is a hypocrite BUT she should have never been invited in the first place, as Mr. Obama was at Notre Dame. That should never have happened either.

Dear TFP Student Action members,
Thank you kindly for the good work that you do in promoting the Roman Catholic Faith. I am very thankful that my mother passed the Roman Catholic Faith to me. My being Catholic has always been important to me and I realized how very, very thankful I am to be Catholic, especially when my husband passed away like he did suddenly and very unexpectedly; he had health issues but I still didn't expect that he would die so soon. It truly has been my Catholic faith and beliefs that have helped me to accept his death and to move on in life. I cannot even imagine how I would be able to face his death or anything else in this life that comes up without having the Catholic Faith and beliefs to lean on and to find comfort in them completely because of the Catholic Faith having the full circle of Truth that it has that no other religious denomination has. Thank you for continually praying the Rosary and for being steadfast in the Catholic Faith.

Courageous and stoic defenders of our Holy Faith, please know that not only faithful Catholics who are citizens of the USA are watching you, and grateful for your example, but here in Australia we see you and hear you, and the abuse you suffer in defence of human life. Thank you and thanks be to God for your light in the darkening shadows of this ungodly world.
Hold firm, because many are called but few are chosen. You are the chosen few who will stand bravely for God. We also stand for God from afar, outside abortion clinics in Australia. When will they ever learn? God will prevail, but how many souls will be lost? Your actions are seen, and may just save some more souls for God.
Thank you all for your courage. May God bless you abundantly. One question - where are the girls?

Thank you for the protest rally for Life at Georgetown U. I am so very perplexed at the reasoning Georgetown could possibly have used to invite Kathleen Sebelius to that campus for ANY reason. The Dean who introduced her with “She works every day to improve access to health care for our nation’s children...” surely MUST have immediately gone to confession, because that is a lie of the largest proportions! Sebelius and her agenda are evil. I wonder how many are aware that all of those on the "special panel of experts" that advise HHS, ALL have a history of working with/for Planned Parenthood or a similar organization, with their primary function being aborting innocent children, while there are so many other entities that ARE available to everyone in need of health care of every type. Our country and our Christian beliefs are under seige and we must all pray that God intervenes to turn these evil agendas/practices/policies around for the true benefit of all.

God bless the TFP and what it stands for. It is refreshing to see students who are practicing Catholics with a capital "C" and not cafeteria catholics with a small "c" defending the Church, our Lord, our Lady, and our Faith. The reactions of some of the attendees are unfortunately common place these days. When it comes to what the majority of what those who consider themselves Catholic these days believe, it is disgraceful. I and my family are part of the remnant of the true Church and adhere to the rules set by her. As adult converts to the faith, we willingly embraced the Church and all she consists of with open arms. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for defending all that I believe true and willingly embrace.

God Bless you wonderful young men and women who stand up for your catholic faith. It is abominable that such a highly regarded university as Georgetown would stoop to this. Honoring Kathleen Sebelius is akin to saying "we believe in killing babies in the womb" SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!! archbishop Naumann in Kansas City KS tried to persuade Sebelius to change her thinking to no avail. May God persuade her to do so. May Our Lady also change her heart and that of the Georgetown administration. I will never permit any of my grandchildren to attend Georgetown University unless it changes its policies. It is no longer catholic in any sense! Loyal Catholic alumni should protest and vote with their pocketbooks to cease giving any donations to this ANTI-CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY! Sadly, to so many, "Christian" is indeed just a name - it's almost like eating is just to satisfy one's hunger and never really appreciating what eating does for the body. Being a Christian is to live as a disciple of Christ Who is the Head of His Church, and being a disciple is to follow after Him in deeds, in words and in mind. And, a Catholic should stand out as the "true" Christian - there's no duplicity in him. But something has gone so very wrong in these times - as an example is Georgetown university - as the first Catholic university it truly should be the role model for its students and every child for these are the future of the world. Let us pray for it to find its way back home to the Lord - its officers, staff, employees but most especially, its students who will remain steadfast in their faith and to shun away from the wiles of the Evil One.
